50 years of Johannsmann horse transportation
In October, Johannsmann celebrated its 50th anniversary with numerous guests from the international equestrian world.

O’zapft is! was the motto under which Friedrich Johannsmann celebrated its 50th anniversary in October. The company celebrated 50 years of company history with a hearty Oktoberfest and numerous wonderful guests.
Friedrich Johannsmann grew up in a family of horses; his father was already a successful breeder. Horses and the smell of stables have been part of his life since he could walk. Like his three brothers, he started riding as a child and competed successfully in show jumping and eventing competitions. But it soon became clear to him that he wanted to earn his living behind the wheel rather than in the saddle. “Dealing with horses from a young age was the foundation for me, but I didn’t just want to ride horses, I wanted to see the world.”
The one-man business became one of the largest and most active horse transport companies in the world. Whether at home or abroad, the large beige-colored horse transporters with green lettering and the advertising slogan: “Whether near or far, your horse will love to travel with Johannsmann” can be seen everywhere.
One of the first customers was the great equestrian couple George and Inge Theodorescu, whose daughter has been the national coach of the German dressage riders since 2012. The Theodorescus had agreed to a gala evening in Verden/Aller, but the haulier they had already commissioned had to cancel due to taking on too many orders due to a lack of vehicles. This was Friedrich’s debut as a haulier, and the Theodorescus remained his customers forever. Johannsmann’s first trip abroad took him to Ireland with the then show jumper and now successful trainer Peter Weinberg. Johannsmann-Pferdetransporte now travels all over the world.
Part of the company’s philosophy is not to leave anything to chance when it comes to transportation, but to plan the journey down to the last detail. Over the past decades, the Johannsmann company has also often taken on the transportation of the valuable four-legged friends to World and European Championships for the German Olympic Equestrian Committee (DOKR). Johannsmann has accompanied all Olympic Games since 1988 – usually together with its English partner company Peden-Bloodstock. For decades, the company’s prestigious business has also included the tour of the Spanish Riding School, which travels across Europe in Johannsmann trucks.
Fritz Johannsmann was honored with the German Equestrian Cross in silver for his services to equestrian sport on the company’s 50th anniversary.
